The salary of a goldsmith in Switzerland is shaped by several factors: workplace location is decisive, as earning potential varies significantly by canton – it is highest in Geneva, Aargau and Appenzell Innerrhoden, while Zurich, Lucerne and Bern see lower figures. Work experience and craft specialization, for example in jewels, chains or custom-made pieces, also affect pay. Other influencing factors include the size and focus of the business, as well as the share of original creations versus repair and commissioned work.
Goldsmiths are among the classic craft professions. They design jewelry collections and work precious metals such as gold, silver or platinum into jewelry and other objects. During their training, they often specialize in a particular field, such as making jewels, chains or custom pieces. Goldsmiths mainly work in goldsmith workshops or their own studios, handling both the creation of new pieces and repair and alteration work on existing jewelry.
