The salary of a hairdresser in Switzerland depends on several factors. Workplace location plays an important role, as salaries vary noticeably by canton — earning potential is highest in Aargau, Geneva, and Solothurn. Professional experience also affects pay, as does completed training or qualification. In addition, factors such as the size of the business, specialization — for example in coloring or updos — and the type of employer, from a small salon to a wellness hotel, influence the salary.
Hairdressers — also known in Switzerland as coiffeuses and coiffeurs — advise their clients on haircuts, hair care, and the right hairstyle. Their tasks include washing, cutting, coloring, and styling hair as well as advising on suitable care products. Besides classic hair salons, hairdressers also find employment in film and theater productions, fashion shows, or wellness hotels. The profession combines craftsmanship with creativity and a strong sense for current trends.
