The salary of an IT process manager in Switzerland depends largely on the level of education: those holding a university degree earn considerably more than people with classic vocational training. Professional experience also plays an important role, since more complex process projects can be taken on independently as practice grows. The canton of the workplace has a noticeable effect too: in economically strong regions such as Aargau or Zurich salaries tend to lie above the Swiss average, while in other cantons they are closer to the mean. Company size and sector have an additional effect, as firms with complex IT landscapes and a high degree of digitalisation usually pay more for experienced process managers. Those who additionally bring knowledge of project management methods or process modelling can further improve their earning prospects.
IT process managers make sure that business processes run smoothly within a company's IT landscape. They analyse existing workflows, document the interfaces between specialist departments and IT systems, and develop proposals for optimisation and digitalisation. Their duties include supporting and developing applications, testing new process steps and training staff in the use of IT-supported workflows. They are in close contact with internal departments, external service providers and the IT department in order to capture requirements and implement them technically. In Switzerland, IT process managers frequently work in medium-sized and larger companies in industry, finance or public administration, where digital processes play a central role. The occupation calls for a good understanding of business workflows as well as technical IT knowledge, and is usually reached via training in information technology supplemented by further education in process or project management.
