The salary of jurists in Switzerland strongly depends on the canton, professional experience and legal specialisation. Professionals in the cantons of Neuchâtel, Aargau and Graubünden tend to earn particularly well, while wages in Fribourg, Schaffhausen and Zug are generally lower. Specialisation also plays an important role: those who focus on an in-demand area of law such as commercial law, compliance or contract law can achieve significantly higher salaries than in more general fields of practice. Earning potential rises noticeably with growing professional experience and responsibility, for instance by taking on a leading position in a legal department or law firm.
