The salary of sculptors depends heavily on the client: public commissions, for example art integrated into buildings, are often better paid than private commissions or freelance work. Sculptors create three-dimensional artworks from materials such as stone, wood, metal, or clay. Their tasks include selecting materials, modeling initial designs, working the material itself, and, in some cases, restoring historical artworks. The profession combines artistic creation with technical expertise in materials and processing techniques, and is practiced both independently in one's own studio and as an employee in workshops or restoration businesses.
